* As trader bags 4 months term for theft of 2 chickens
A Jos Magistrate Court, on Friday, sentenced a 20-year-old security guard, Muhammed Hassan, to one year in prison for stealing armoured cable and diesel.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos, in her judgment, gave the convict an option of fine of N50, 000 or spend one year in prison.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ahmed Labaran, told the court that the case was reported at the Angwan Rogo Police Station on February 24, by Harunna Jibril, the complainant.
Labaran said the convict stole the armoured cable valued at N85, 000, and diesel worth N690, 000 before he was caught.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
The same court, in another case, sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Shederack Danlami, to four months imprisonment for stealing two chickens.
Magistrate Bokkos summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
She, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N20, 000.
She also ordered him to pay N20, 000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Daniel Longwal, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station on March 25, by a team of vigilante.
Longwal said that the convict stole and slaughtered the two chickens worth N20, 000.
The prosecutor also said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
