Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, near Epe, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Professor Gbolahan Elias, who served as the 5th Chancellor of the university.
The Lagos State Government and the entire university community appreciate Elias’ contributions to the university and the dignity with which he represented the institution throughout his tenure.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment by Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is a visitor to the university, is made pursuant to the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1), which empowers him (the visitor) to appoint the chancellor of the university.
In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of LASU, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, and made available to newsmen on Sunday, Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment will last five years and renewable once.
Additionally, his appointment has taken effect from Friday, February 13, 2026.
Both the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the university, Mr. Babatunde Ogala and Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, respectively, congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on his new role even as they look forward to his impactful leadership in advancing the vision and mission of the university.
Oba Ogunsanwo, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, and who also had different Masters degrees from the University of Lagos and the Lagos State University, is a former executive chairman of Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS)
He is a fellow of many professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Taxation Nigeria, and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management and the Institute of Directors, UK, among others.
