Power grid collapses again, plunges Nigeria into darkness

For the umpteenth time, the national power grid collapsed on Saturday afternoon, cutting electricity supply to most parts of the country.

Consequently, bulk electricity supply from the Transmission Company of Nigeria National Control Centre has been disrupted.

First hint of the system collapse was given by the Head of Corporate Communications of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Mr. Emeka Ezeh, who confirmed that the system collapsed around 15:09 on July 6, 2024.

EEDC said the situation is the reason for the loss of power supply in the South East states – Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

“This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network,” it noted.

Ezeh, however, said that efforts are being made to restore supply, while assuring that EEDC is on “standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”

He continued: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July, 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.

“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo,” the statement added.
