Police authorities have explained the benefits of the stop and search strategy in combating crime and arresting criminals posing as innocent ones.
The Public Relations Officer for Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe on his official twitter (X) handle, disclosed a shocking discovery in one of their operations in Delta State where a criminal minded passenger was discovered to have concealed arms and ammunition in a bag together with smoked fish.
In his post, DSP Edafe said: “Stop and search is very important, pleases be patient with us.
“I got a call from a distress caller that they were on a commercial vehicle coming to Asaba, but the Police stopped them at Kwale and searched all the passengers, he said he didn’t know what they saw with one of them, and that after seeing that thing, the policemen took all of them to the station.
“I asked that he should give the policemen the phone, guess what was found with one of the passengers? A cut-to-size gun, and two live cartridges concealed inside a bag containing smoked fish.
“He was detained and other passengers were allowed to go. You can see that stop and search is so important, I quite agree that it may inconvenience passengers, but please always be patient and cooperate with the police,” he added.
