Police detain lady after lover dies in Lagos hotel room where both lodged

The police in Lagos have arrested a lady following the death of one Mr. Abdulwaheed (surname withheld), with whom she lodged at a motel in the Ikotu area of the State.

The incident happened at the weekend, at City International Motel in the Ikotun area.

Reports suggest that the two lovers met online and arranged to meet physically in Lagos, where the late Lamidi was based.

The lady whose identity has not been given traveled from her base to meet Lamidi at the motel in Lagos.

The two love birds spent the night together at the motel but the lady was said to have raised the alarm seeking help in the early hours of Sunday.

Her distress call reportedly aroused staff of the motel. On rushing to the room, they found Lamidi lying motionless on the ground.

“The girl said the man wanted to enter the toilet but slumped on the ground. A doctor that works in a hospital close to the motel was invited to check the man. He certified him dead.

“The girl said she came to Lagos to meet the man as he promised to marry her; she came with some property and had the intention of moving into his house to be his live-in lover. Instead of going to the man’s house, they went to the hotel and they were in the room when the girl ran out to call for help because the man slumped.

“So, when people rushed into the room, they found him lying unconscious on the ground. The incident happened around 8.40am on Sunday but the girl arrived from another State on Saturday. The girl said she met the man online and that they had been chatting,” a source around the motel narrated.

Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect does not want her parents involved in the investigation.

He said: “We have contacted the family of the deceased and they have shown up. They are applying to just get the corpse. They said they are not interested in any criminal investigation but the command is still considering their application through its legal department.”
