Police comb Oyo forests to flush out kidnappers, criminal elements

The police in Oyo State have begun combing forests in search of kidnappers and other criminal elements in several locations.

Gunmen, at the weekend, killed a police officer and kidnapped an Indian expatriate in Ogunmakin community, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident prompted the police authorities to review their security strategy, including deploying additional personnel to curb such heinous acts.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, while speaking on the Current Affairs programme of Ibadan-based Fresh FM on Monday, expressed concern over the resurgence of criminal activities in some local government areas of the state.

Alayande stated that the command is working in collaboration with both Ogun and Lagos State commands to ensure effective policing of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and surrounding border communities.

He said: “The Oyo State Police Command is reviewing its security architecture to check the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements across the 33 local government areas.

“It is tragic that one of our officers lost his life while trying to repel the attacks by gunmen in Ogunmakin, Oluyole Local Government Area.

“An Indian expatriate was kidnapped during the attack. We have deployed our personnel to the affected areas. They have begun combing the bushes in search of the criminal elements, and I assure the public that they will be apprehended wherever they are hiding.

“The command is working closely with the sister commands in Lagos and Ogun States to ensure a safer environment.”
