Police arrest suspected killer of Ekiti monarch

The police in Ekiti State have arrested one Stephen Ademola Omoniyi, suspected to have stabbed and killed the Onise of Odo-Oro Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the state, Oba Gbadebo Ibiloye Ogunsakin, on Monday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Caleb Ikechukwu, disclosed on Tuesday that the suspect was arrested in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Monday.

According to Ikechukwu, Omoniyi was arrested “around 4.30 pm on Monday around Ajao Market in Ado-Ekiti.”

Ikechukwu said: “The suspect has been arrested and he was brought in under investigation.

“He confessed to the act and our investigation continues.

“The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.”

He assured that the police would be professional in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing of the monarch.

Omoniyi allegedly stabbed Oba Ogunsakin with a knife on Monday, after which he reportedly fled.

That prompted angry protest among the youth of the community, who also launched a manhunt for him.

Community sources claimed that Oba Ogunsakin was stabbed by the killer after he had presided at meeting with his chiefs.
