The police in Kano State have confirmed the arrest of some youths armed with dangerous weapons, with intent to disrupt the rerun elections in Kunchi Local Government Area.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, had warned against violence during re-run elections across 60 polling units in six local government areas and three constituencies.
Regardless, reports on Saturday indicated that the police arrested hundreds of armed youths who were heading towards Kunchi and Tsanyawa local government area to instigate violence and create fear.
At Tsanyawa Local Government Area, reports said some suspected thugs snatched ballot boxes during the election.
Meanwhile, the rerun election into the Kano State House of Assembly commenced peacefully in Kura Local Government area, with voters actively casting their ballots.
Our correspondent observed the presence of security personnel in all polling units where the rerun elections are taking place.

Halima Abdullahi, an electoral officer at Kurunsumau ward of Auzinawa Polling Unit, confirmed that the BVAS machine was working well.
Nonetheless, the election went on smoothly in almost all the polling units in Kura.
In Garun Malam Local Government Area, election materials reportedly arrived early, and voters turned out early to cast their ballots.
Reports from Rimin Gado and Tofa constituencies indicated that the election progressed without disruptions.
Meanwhile, there was heavy presence of security agencies at all polling units, and voters turned out in good numbers to exercise their constitutional franchise.
