Police arrest Okada rider, accomplice who gang-raped 18-year-old girl

The Police in Ogun State have arrested a commercial motorcyclist and his collaborator who gang-raped an 18-year-old female passenger in the State.

The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday, August 30, in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area.

The culprits whose names were given as Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin are currently being held in police custody while investigation is going on.

Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident and noted that the culprits are presently cooling off in police cell.

The victim (name withheld) had told the police that she boarded a commercial motorcycle at about 8:00am from the MRI company area to Ogijo bus stop on Tuesday; “but on the way, the rider who carried another male passenger with her suddenly diverted to another route, while the other male passenger started threatening to kill her if she did not cooperate with them.”

Oyeyemi said the teenager reported that “they forcefully took her to a room in one house in the area, where two other men were waiting for them.

“On getting there, the two men they met in the room and the accompanied male passenger took turns to rape her.

On receiving the report, the District Police Officer of Ogijo division, CSP Onanufe Umoh said he drafted his men to arrest the culprits but noted that two other perpetrators ran away.

“The two arrested suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has directed the transfer of the suspects to the State CIID for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

CP Bankole assured that the other two fleeing culprits will be arrested in no time and be made to face the consequences of their actions.
