Police arrest 2 suspects in Lagos over lynching of alleged cable thief

The police in Lagos have arrested two suspects for allegedly killing a man, simply identified as Monday over alleged theft of power cables.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects.

Hundeyin said that Alausa Police Division, at about 4:00pm on Sunday, received information from a concerned resident about the case.

He said the suspect was strangled after he was beaten to a pulp.

“The informant said that at about 3:00am of same date, he received a call from one of his brothers that one Monday has been lynched to death by some group of boys,” Hundeyin said.

He said that the suspects and others still at large, conspired and murdered Monday after he was indicted for cable theft.

“After Monday was beaten to stupor, the suspects used copper wire to tie his neck and strangled him,” he added.

He said that the corpse has been recovered and evacuated to the morgue at Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.

According to him, investigation has commenced into the matter.
