The Plateau State Government has condemned the attack on Chikam, a community neighbouring the Plateau State University in Bokkos Local Government Area where three persons including a student of the institution were killed.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication Musa Ashoms said the killing, which prompted protests by students, is saddening.

“People just in their sleep lose their lives. So, we are using this opportunity to call on security agencies,” he said.

“They have done really well but we are urging them to redouble their steps to do more in the area of arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators of this evil because we would be going back and forth if we do not have any arrests after all these attacks.”

“So, as a government, we frown against this act, and like I said, the government and people of Plateau State are sad with this happening,” the commissioner added.

The students of Plateau State University in Bokkos went on a protest following the death of the 200-level Computer Science student of the institution who was residing at Chikam.

But it took the intervention of security operatives to stop the protest.

Meanwhile, the management of institution has suspended ongoing examinations in the institution over the killing of a 200-level student identified as Dading Jordan.

Registrar of the institution, Yakubu Ayuba, disclosed this through a statement on Friday in Jos.

Ayuba said that the university has also declared a two-day mourning in honour of the slain student.

“The Vice Chancellor and the entire management convey their condolences to the family of the deceased student, the student body and the university community.

“In view of this sad development, management has declared a two-day mourning period, from Friday, April 19, to Saturday, April 20.

“Accordingly, all the examinations earlier scheduled for Friday and Saturday are hereby suspended. While we call on our students to remain calm and law-abiding, we wish to urge the security agencies to beef up security around the university in order to secure staff and students,” he added.
