The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has commiserated with the Ikonne family over the demise of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Professor Uche Ikonne.
Otti, through a statement by his media aide Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the LP hopeful “received with shock and sadness the news of the demise of the PDP governorship candidate in Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne.”
He continued: “Dr. Otti recalls the exciting exchange of brotherly pleasantries during his last encounter with Prof. Ikonne at a public function, and regretted that death snatched Prof. Ikonne away from his family and loved ones, a few days after he issued a press release praying and wishing him quick recovery and return to the campaign trail.
“To learn that Prof. Ikonne has passed on a few days after we prayed and wished him quick recovery and return to the campaign trail is, to say the least, very unfortunate, but we cannot question God who decided to call him back home at this time,” Otti was quoted as further saying.
The former bank chief, therefore, expressed his heartfelt condolences to Prof. Ikonne’s family while praying that God would grant his soul eternal repose, and his family and loved ones the strength to bear his exit.
Apparently in honour of the deceased, Otti announced suspension of his campaigns for the rest of the week.
He also asked that the Labour Party presidential rally billed for next Tuesday be moved to the end of the week as a mark of honour to the late Prof. Ikonne.
