Okowa hails Emefiele’s re-appointment as CBN Gov

Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on his re-appointment for another five-year term in office.

In a congratulatory message issued in Asaba, by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa extolled the leadership qualities and astute contributions of Emefiele to the economic development of Nigeria since he was appointed in 2014.

He described Emefiele as an illustrious son of Delta State, whose remarkable contributions to the banking industry in Nigeria is legendary and worthy of emulation.

He said: “Emefiele is an illustrious son of Delta State in whom we are well pleased. His astute contributions to the development of the banking industry and the Nigeria economy is legendary and worthy of emulation”.

Governor Okowa noted that as a distinguished Deltan, Emefiele has had a remarkable but turbulent first term as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria where he successfully played a critical role to steer the Nigerian economy out of recession.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate Mr. Godwin Emefiele on his reappointment for a second term as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

The governor commended President Buhari for finding Emefiele worthy to be reappointed.

“On behalf of myself, government and people of Delta State, I will like to sincerely thank Mr. President for considering an illustrious citizen of Delta State worthy of occupying this important position of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for a second term in office,” the statement added

In the same vein, a former Director of the Budgetary Department of the CBN, Dr Titus Okunronmu, has commended President Buhari for re-appointing Emefiele as governor of the apex bank.

Okunronmu gave the recommendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Ota in Ogun on Friday.

He described Emefiele’s re-appointment as a decision in the right direction, saying that the re-appointment would stabilise Nigeria’s macro-economic decisions.

The former CBN director said that Emefiele had done well, noting that “the country’s inflation rate is drastically coming down.

“He has achieved what it expected of him as the nation’s currency is now stable,’’ said Okunronmu.

“Monetary stability is a major issue in any economy. Emefiele has achieved this.’’

Okunronmu said that it would be difficult to achieve monetary stability in a situation where the nation was running on deficit, noting that to have stabilised the monetary policies is a big achievement.
