Obasanjo in symbolic gesture, vacates his seat for Peter Obi at public event

* Says: My job is done

Known for his trademark humour, former President Olusegun Obasanjo live out his reputation recently when vacated his seat at a public event and invited the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to take his place.

The gesture, believed to be symbolic, has continued to attracted public commentary after he offered his reserved seat to Obi.

The drama occurred during a celebration of the national award given to Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank.

In a viral video, the former president was seen summoning Obi from table nine and leading him to table one. 

The switch was met with applause from the assembled audience.

Obasanjo said: “In the presence of Nigerians,” as he proceeded to select the former governor of  Anambra State from his former seat.

“My job is done,” he declared after leading Obi to table one.

It should be noted that Obasanjo has yet to endorse a presidential candidate for the upcoming election, despite widespread speculations that Obi is his preferred candidate.

Prior to the event, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate met with the former president in a series of closed-door meetings.

Obasanjo also attended Obi’s recent meeting in London with Governor Nyesom Wike and his group.
