- Court adjourns murder trial to Jan 2026
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Monday, remanded Wasiu Akinwande aka Olori Eso, and two others for alleged murder and cult-related offences.
Akinwande was arraigned alongside Qudus Egbere and Sola Edun Tomiwa before Justice Oyindamola Ogala on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, and membership of an unlawful society.
It would be recalled that the Lagos State Government (LASG) had filed the amended information dated November 10, 2025, accusing the defendants of killing two men, Bolanle Yusuf and Yusuf Ramadan, in Mushin.
Addressing the court, the counsel for the LASG, A.O. Azeez informed Justice Ogala that an amended charge had been filed that morning.
However, the defendants, represented by their lawyers, Olanrewaju Ajanaku and M.D. Obadeyi, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Specifically, the counsel for the second defendant, M.D. Obadeyi, requested that his client be allowed to continue on administrative bail, but Justice Ogala declined, directing the lawyer to file a formal bail application instead.
According to the charge, the defendants, and others still at large allegedly conspired to commit murder on July 31, 2024, at about 11:00am on Moshalashi Street, Mushin, in the Ikeja Judicial Division.
They were accused of using machetes and firearms to kill Bolanle Yusuf and Yusuf Ramadan.
Another count alleged that the defendants were members of the Eiye Confraternity, an unlawful society, contrary to the provisions of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Law of Lagos State, 2021.
The offences contravene Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and the State’s anti-cultism law.
Following the arraignment, the prosecution requested a date for trial. This prompted Justice Ogala to order the remand of the defendants and adjourned the case to January 19, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
