NIMC unveils pre-enrolment digital portal to ease NIN registration

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new digital Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at improving efficiency and reducing long queues associated with National Identification Number (NIN) registration across the country.

Applicants can now schedule appointments, upload required supporting documents online, and ensure their personal information is accurately captured before physical verification.

According to the commission, the pre-enrolment platform is part of a broader push to modernise Nigeria’s identity management system and improve service delivery through technology.

The portal allows prospective applicants both within Nigeria and in the diaspora to complete and submit their biodata online before visiting an enrolment centre for biometric capture.

By digitising the first stage of the process, NIMC says the initiative will significantly cut waiting times and decongest enrolment centres nationwide.

NIMC noted that allowing applicants to input their own biodata reduces errors that often occur during manual data entry, while also improving enrolment accuracy and operational efficiency.

The portal also features enhanced security measures designed to ensure the confidentiality and protection of users’ personal data.

The commission stated that the initiative reflects the leadership direction of Abisoye Coker-Odusote, its director-general and chief executive officer, whose tenure has prioritised the use of digital tools to strengthen institutional performance.

“With this portal, applicants can begin their NIN registration journey from the comfort of their homes, making the overall process faster, simpler, and more user-friendly,” NIMC said in a statement.

The commission said by streamlining the enrolment process, the pre-enrolment portal will help accelerate NIN registration nationwide which is an important step given the growing role of the NIN in accessing government services, financial platforms, telecommunications services, and other aspects of daily life.

NIMC encouraged all prospective NIN applicants to take advantage of the new system to ensure a smoother enrolment experience.
