The Federal Government has reached an agreement with the Niger Republic to build a new refinery in the border town of both countries.
The proposed refinery will be built between a border town in Niger Republic and Kastina State in Nigeria, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has disclosed.
The minister recently led a delegation to the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, with the Energy Minister of that country, Foumakoye Gado, also in attendance.
While giving the outcome of the visit to the media on Wednesday, Kachikwu said the technical agreement will soon be signed between the two countries.
The agreement, the minister said, will include “building of crude oil pipeline from Niger to the new refinery.”
The information had earlier been posted on Twitter saying that the visit “to Niger Republic will lead to a definite agreement for the design and construction of a new refinery to be located at a border town between Nigeria and Niger.”
