It is approximately 13 months to the presidential election scheduled for February 18, 2023. Lots of cacophonous noises from the political jungles are polluting the airwaves. But one thing is certain. Come 2023, and baring unforeseen circumstances, a new tenant will emerge to occupy Aso Rock.
Who that will be and what it will mean for the future of the country are the big questions. It appears that parties and politicians are only interested in fighting over where the next president will come from and of what faith he professes instead of laying bare their agenda.
While there are loud cries calling for a president of Igbo extraction, some in the Middle Belt who claim that Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is Igbo and therefore, the Middle Belt which had not produced a democratically elected president must be allowed to produce the next president.
The South west, which had Obasanjo and has the current VP, is not to be left out as Ahmed Tinubu and Osinbanjo are not hiding their interests. The governors of Kogi and Sokoto states are also beating their battle drums in readiness for a presidential mud fight…and this is where yours truly comes in.
I personally don’t care where the next president comes from. All that agitates my mind and I believe the minds of average Nigerians, is the question of who will take Nigeria out of the woods or start the process of dragging us out of the dumpster irrespective of political or religious leaning.
Unfortunately almost all those that have indicated their interest have all passed through political crucible and found wanting. But I sincerely believe that there are a few worthy Nigerians out there who, given the chance, will do their utmost to pull Nigeria out of the doldrums.
One such person is Mazi Sam Ohuabunnwa. Here is a formidable presidential personality whose career path is intimidating. His achievements, accolades, and antecedents make him the most qualified among those that have so far shown interest in the coveted villa.
Space and time will not permit me to delve into his nascent qualities but suffice it to say that Sam is one detribalized politician of all the pack. I watched his recent adventure up North where he addressed supporters in Kano. How I wish he will take his message of unity, goodwill, and security, and the revamping of our fledgling economy to all the states of the Federation. He has the will, the love for Nigeria, and above all the capacity to deliver the goods. I wish him all the luck.
