Days of apocalypse seem to be returning to the Nigerian oil sector following threats by the vicious militant group – Niger Delta Avengers – which vowed on Friday to return to the trenches, to destroy oil installations in the Niger Delta region.
The group had been observing a ceasefire, which came at the instance of the Federal government.
“We can assure you that every oil installation in our region will feel the warmth of the wrath of the Niger Delta Avengers,” the militant group announced in a statement on its website. The group did not however give reasons for its latest posturing.
Attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta in 2016 cut Nigeria’s oil production to its lowest level in at least 30 years, and coupled with low oil prices, led to a crippling recession of the Nigerian economy.
