NFF apologizes over Waldrum mix-up

By Samuel Onyekwere

As Nigerians continue to express concern over the Nigerian Football Federation’s non-challant attitude to female football, the football house has apologized over the controversy that trailed the purported appointment and withdrawal of Randy Waldrum as the Technical Adviser of the Super Falcons.

The first vice chairman of NFF, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi in a monitored programme explained that the issue of the coach was publicity gone bad. The coach he said was still in talks with the NFF and was expected to fly down to the
country to conclude negotiations with the technical committee before he got another job.
On why the Falcons have not played any friendly match since they won the African Women Championship, he said since there has not been any tournament since the last one year, it will cost a lot to keep the girls in camp.
He also cleared the air on the protest that followed after the Falcons won the African Women Nations Cup where they demanded for their unpaid allowances before they will release the Cup. Akinwunmi said the football house was short of money at that period and there was nothing much they could do to salvage the situation until the Ministry of Sports intervened.

Explaining why attention is given more to the male football than their female counterparts, he admitted that the male competition attracts more sponsorship and fans.
