The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has raised the alarm over his safety, saying he received threats following his recent New Year message to the nation.
In a post on social media, Obi questioned whether his message had “crossed the line”, citing threats directed at his life, family, and associates.
He alleged that among the individuals who voiced opposition is Mr. Felix Morka, who accused him of overstepping boundaries and warned of consequences.
Obi shared the disturbing messages with his followers, urging those who missed his New Year address to watch it, stressing his unwavering commitment to speaking out against what he perceives as a growing trend toward authoritarianism in the country.
“I remain committed to upholding decorum, but I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully,” Obi wrote, expressing concern about the erosion of democratic practices and the increasing suppression of freedom of expression in Nigeria.
