N450m Fraud: Diezani loses bid to leave UK to face trial in Nigeria

 

A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the application filed by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, seeking to be aided to return to Nigeria from England, and to be joined as co-defendant in a N450million fraud case.

Justice Rilwan Aikawaon, Wednesday rejected her application, describing it as  bizarre and abuse of court processes. The judge also said he would not allow himself to be used to frustrate Diezani’s imminent trial in the United Kingdom, where she is currently under investigation and on bail.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who is currently in London where she is being investigated for money laundering, is seeking an opportunity to defend the allegations in a charge filed against her, Mohammed Belgore (SAN) and a former Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Sulaiman.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday opposed Diezani’s application seeking to be joined as a defendant in a N450million fraud charge before Justice Rilwan Aikawa..
