Moderate your quest for power, tackle insecurity, Wamakko tells northern govs

A former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, has berated northern governors for failing to tackle insecurity in the region, but rather choose to chase a less important matter such as the presidency in 2023.

In a statement on Wednesday, Wammako also condemned the Southern governors for insisting on a power shift to the South in 2023 and the counter statement by their Northern counterparts.

The former governor, however, urged state governors to focus on tackling the security challenges facing the country instead of dwelling on the 2023 presidency.

Wamakko added that the debate about who gets the presidency ahead of the 2023 elections was a distraction that needs to stop.

He also condemned the anti-open grazing laws enacted by states in the south, describing the development as impeding on the rights of some people to move and live wherever they wanted in the country.

Wamakko said the governors, by virtue of their oath of office, are expected to unite the country, not divide it by their utterances.
