Military on alert in Abuja to avert attacks by bandits, Boko Haram insurgents

The military has raised its security alertness in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following intelligence gathering of planned attacks by bandits and Boko Harm insurgents.

Sources said the Army is in receipt of intelligence of plans by insurgents to enter the FCT through the Abuja-Keffi expressway and carry out attacks.

Thus, troops have been placed on high alert and deployed to strategic locations with checkpoints to monitor, prevent and arrest any potential attacker.

Images on social media show soldiers have mounted roadblocks at all entry and exit points of the FCT, and conducting stop and search operations randomly condcuting vehicles and passengers.

Motorists, especially those who live along the Abuja-Keffi expressway in areas such as Kugbo, Karu, Jokwoyi, Orozo, Karshi, Nyanya, Mararaba, One-man village, Masaka, among other satellite towns, are wading through traffic snarl as a result of roadblocks mounted by soldiers.

This comes after the Tuesday morning invasion of the University of Abuja by bandits who abducted some staff members and their families.
