Married NYSC members no longer required to change maiden name for redeployment

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members seeking redeployment or relocation will no longer be required to change their maiden names to their spouses’ names.

In a circular issued on November 25, 2024, and signed by the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, the NYSC clarified that the policy change was effective immediately.

The circular titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members”, instructed directors, acting directors, and state and Federal Capital Territory coordinators to ensure strict adherence to the new directive.

The NYSC also urged area office directors to closely monitor the implementation of this policy adjustment.

According to the circular, while the name change requirement has been scrapped, all other criteria for the concessional deployment or relocation of married female corps members remain unchanged.
