The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that the property of its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is not under attack in any part of the country.
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekunmi, made the clarification through a statement, saying the video being circulated on social media as the property of the Chairman is false, as the property under attack does not belong to him.
Oyekunmi said: “The property being purportedly attacked by some youths in a video clip circulating on the social media does not belong to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
“The INEC Chairman does not own the property in question in either Bauchi or anywhere else around the world.
“This narrative is indeed the latest in the series of desperate smear campaign efforts by mischief makers. The public should disregard it,” he concluded.
Similarly, the Police in Bauchi have disclaimed the same viral video claiming that Prof. Yakubu house was attacked by hoodlums on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Bauchi Command, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said: “We categorically wish to state that the video and its content is entirely fake, as no such event occurred within or around the Bauchi metropolis, earlier today (Saturday).

“However, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan, cognisant of the negative impacts of disinformation on public peace, and security, particularly in this post-election period, has already ordered a discreet investigation to unravel the origin of the video, with a view to ensuring that the fabricator of the viral clip face the full wrath of the law.
“Once again, the Bauchi State Police Command reiterates that there was no attack of any nature on the residence of the INEC Chairman in Bauchi.
“As such, the general public is hereby urged not to panic, while also disregarding the fake video and its malicious content,” he said.
