* Despite court order
The Legal Team of the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential standard-bearer, Mr. Peter Obi, says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted it access to only two states out of the nine whose elections materials it asked for leave of court to inspect.
The team said the INEC has not acted in substantial compliance with the court order.
The legal team said the party asked INEC to grant it access to the election materials used by 9 states in the presidential and national assembly elections, but instead of giving it what it asked for, INEC had only given it access to the election materials of only two states.
The legal team of the Labour Party stated that although the Labour Party needed to inspect the election materials of all the states in Nigeria, the party however, considered the limited amount of time and as such, urged INEC to give it access to 9 states instead of 36 states.
The legal team regretted that despite the assurance given by the INEC Chair Mahmood Yakubu, who promised that the commission would obey the court order, INEC has failed to acted in accordance with its avowals.
The legal team of said that it had about four days to file its case in court and it could not do so without inspecting the election materials so as to get the evidence it needed to build up its case in court.
