The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced the immediate termination of all street-sweeping briefs awarded to some companies involved in practices that violate the terms of their contracts.
LAWMA disclosed in a statement that the termination of the contracts was informed by “established cases of unethical behaviour.”
The unethical behaviour, LAWMA said, was “exposed after the commencement of an audit exercise that was approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
LAWMA stated that all employees of the affected companies could re-apply to the government, which will in turn consider them for employment.
To unify its operation across Lagos State, LAWM said it has approved the use of single apparel as a uniform for all street sweepers, for easy identification of genuine workers.
“Consequently, any sweeper or agent who wears any apparel other than the overall uniform approved will be termed an impostor and summarily dealt with according to the extant laws of the State,” LAWMA warned.
The agency assured Lagos residents that sanitation services will be re-positioned for greater efficiency and value for tax-payers’ money.
