Lagos task force impounds 78 motorcycles flouting regulations

The Lagos State Task Force has seized 78 commercial motorcycles for operating on restricted routes in the metropolis.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Ogunlola said the motorcycles were impounded during an enforcement operation designed to restore order and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

“The enforcement is a continuation of the agency’s clean-up operation to rid the state of commercial motorcycles (popularly known as Okada), street traders, illegal ticket sellers, unauthorised parking, and other criminal elements,” she said.

She explained that the operation took place on Thursday along the Aguda carriageway and other major routes on the Oshodi-Apapa and Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridors.

According to her, the areas covered during the exercise included Aguda carriageway and Sanya Bus Stop in Surulere, Mile 2 Oke Bridge, Ijesha Bus Stop, Berger Suya, Cele Express, and parts of FESTAC Town, including the 2nd Gate and the front of the Federal Housing Authority.

“These are areas where some recalcitrant Okada operators were constituting a nuisance on highways, walkways, and other restricted routes,” Ogunlola added.

She noted that the impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the state through the court, in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
