Lagos govt sets speed limits on major roads, prescribes fines for violation


The Lagos State Government has officially set speed limits for various roads across the State in an effort to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.

The new speed regulations specify limits ranging from 50 km/hr to 80 km/hr, depending on the location and traffic conditions.

Below is a breakdown of the approved speed limits:

Third Mainland Bridge: 80 km/hr

Alapere Ogudu Road: 80 km/hr

NITEL, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way: 60 km/hr

Ojota Bridge (by Motorway): 50 km/hr

Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge: 50-60 km/hr

Allen Avenue Road Junction: 50 km/hr

Nurudeen Olowopopo Road: 50 km/hr

Ikorodu Road: 50-60 km/hr

Oshodi Apapa Road: 50 km/hr

Epe Expressway: 80 km/hr

Murtala Mohammed Int’l Airport Road: 60 km/hr

Additionally, the government has reinforced penalties for violations of these speed limits. Motorists caught exceeding the designated limits will be required to pay a fine. The penalties include:

Speed Limit Offence: N50,000

Running a Red Light: N20,000

The authorities have clarified that fines will be paid by the driver operating the vehicle at the time of the violation. The government urges all motorists to comply with these new regulations to ensure safer roads for everyone.
