Lagos govt seals Dowen College in Lekki, cites waste management infraction

The Lagos State Government has sealed Dowen College in Lekki over indiscriminate waste disposal, officials announced on Wednesday.

The action was taken by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), under the State’s #ZeroToleranceLagos initiative.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a video showing two staff members of the school caught disposing of waste irresponsibly, prompting immediate government intervention.

“The state has a duty to enforce environmental laws and ensure public health is protected. Dowen College violated basic waste management protocols, and the government cannot condone such behavior,” Wahab said on social media.

The school remains closed pending compliance with proper waste disposal and sanitation regulations. Authorities warned other institutions to adhere strictly to environmental standards or face similar sanctions.
