* Arrests truck driver for discharging sewage effluent into Mile 2 river
The Lagos State government, on Saturday, dislodged the illegal occupants under the bridge after the expiration of the five days quit notice issued them.
The dislodgment was disclosed by the Commissioner of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his X handle.
Wahab said the exercise was carried out following the expiration of a five-day quit notice issued to squatters on January 28, 2024.
He said the enforcement as directed by Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, was in conjunction with the Special Intervention Squad led by ACP Bayo Sulaiman, on restoring the Lagos Badagry Rail Corridor clean-up.
Wahab revealed that on February 2, 3024 the Monitoring and Enforcement Team of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps dislodged and removed illegal kiosks built under the newly constructed Oyingbo bridge.
Meanwhile, the commissioner further disclosed that a sewage evacuation truck was impounded on Friday, and the driver arrested for discharging faeces into the drainage, which he said contributes to polluting the environment in Amuwo Odofin Housing Estate, Mile 2.
He added that the driver has been arraigned and remanded by the magistrate till Tuesday for sentencing.
