Lagos CP slams Sowore as NYSC drop-out

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has stated that activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, does not possess a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.

According to Jimoh, Sowore failed to complete the compulsory national service program due to “punitive reasons” after being posted to Adamawa State.

Jimoh claimed that Sowore was evasive and never completed his service, questioning why someone without an NYSC certificate would attempt to cause unrest in Lagos.

The police chief defended his decision to declare Sowore wanted, citing security intelligence and social media posts allegedly made by Sowore about plans to block the Third Mainland Bridge.

Jimoh explained that the police were prepared and arrested 13 people linked to the planned protest.

A vehicle containing loudspeakers and a generator meant for the demonstration was also seized.

The commissioner emphasised that the operation was proactive policing aimed at preventing disorder and protecting public activities in Lagos.

Jimoh denied claims that he acted on orders from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stating that the reports were “mischievous” and that the IGP had not given such orders.
