The Lagos State government took enforcement action on Thursday against street hawkers and handcart pushers in different areas of the metropolis.
The Commissioner of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed this through a statement, noting that some of those arrested are being interrogated preparatory to prosecution.
“As I instructed, Special Squad Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) today took enforcement action against street hawkers and handcart pushers hindering the free flow of traffic and constituting environmental nuisances,” Wahab wrote.
He added that the arrests took place at Iyana Ipaja, Oshodi, Obanibasiri, Airport road as well as 7&8 axis.

Other places included Okota, Oke Afa, Jakande Gate, Ijegun Road, Ikotun, Igando and Egbeda areas.
In the process, some of the environmental defaulters were arrested and taken to the LAGESC/KAI headquarters in Oshodi for interrogation and prosecution.
According to the commissioner, Lagos State has zero tolerance for lawless conduct.
