Keke riders union nabs member who fled with female passenger’s luggage

A tricycle operator identified as Ude Nkama has been arrested after allegedly absconding with a female passenger’s luggage in Aba.

He was apprehended on Thursday by the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone.

The incident occurred following a dispute, during which the operator fled with the passenger’s luggage.

According to the union, instead of reporting the matter through the proper channels, the operator chose to abscond with the passenger’s property, an act that contravenes both ASTOPU’s code of conduct and state law.

A swift investigation led by ASTOPU’s Director of Operations, Felix Obioma Nwaguru, gave the operator a 24-hour ultimatum to return the stolen items. However, he defied the order of the regulatory body.

He was eventually apprehended by a vigilant ticketing officer from the Aba South chapter of the union, who identified the fleeing tricyclist’s number plate.

Commenting on the matter, the Zonal Chairman of ASTOPU, Victor Azubuike, reassured the public that tricycle operators across Abia State would continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and prioritise passenger safety in accordance with the union’s policy.
