The Kaduna State government has appointed Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamali as the 19th Emir of Zazzau, succeeding Emir Shehu Idris, who died on September 20, 2020, after reigning for 45 years.
The information was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Ja’afaru Sani, who disclosed that the appointment is with immediate effect.
In the statement titled ‘KDSG appoints Ahmed Nuhu Bamali as Emir of Zazzau’, Governor Nasir El-Rufai congratulated the new Emir of Zazzau for a deserved appointment and wish him a successful reign.
The statement reads thus in part: “Following the death of His Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Shehu Idris, the late 18th Emir of Zazzaus, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has approved the appointment of Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamali as the 19th Emir of Zazzau.
“Bamali is the first emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100 years, following the demise in 1920 of his grandfather, Emir Dan Sidi.
“The appointment is with immediate effect.
“All other arrangements for the installation ceremony and presentation of the staff of office would be announced in due course.
“The governor congratulates the new Emir of Zazzau for a deserved appointment and wishes him a successful reign.”
Emir Bamali is a direct descendant of Mallam Musa Bamali, the flag-bearer and first Fulani Emir of Zazzau who ruled from 1804 to 1821.
His father, H.E. Nuhu Bamali, held the position of Magajin Gari – the second most important princely title in the Zazzau Emirate – for 40 years.
Mal. Ahmed Nuhu Bamali acted in the capacity of Magajin Gari, representing his father in public functions for twenty years. He was officially appointed to the position in 2001, following his father’s passing.
From his mother’s side, he is a direct descendant of the Islamic Scholar and founder of the Fulani empire, Usman Danfodio.
His mother is the daughter of Abdulrahman Dikko, and the great-grand daughter of Sultan Aliyu Babba and Sultan Muhammadu Bello, as well as Shehu Usman Danfodio.
He is currently the leader of the Mallawa dynasty.
Until his appointment as the 19th Emir, Bamali held the traditional title of Magajin Garin Zazzau.
Reacting in a tweet on his Twitter page on Wednesday, Emir Bamali thanked God for his appointment and promised to serve diligently.
He tweeted, ”Alhamdullah, after 100years. The throne is back home
”Allah Gives Power And Leadership To Whom He Wills. Now my watch begins, I shall serve you diligently and selflessly. May Allah Help us All. Amin.”
