Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, has officially dumped the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the declaration on Tuesday, during a televised broadcast to residents of the State.
The governor defended his decision to switch camp, saying the move was necessitated to connect the South-Eastern state to the central government.
Mbah specifically said he joined the PDP to help transform Enugu and restructure the State’s political landscape.
“Today, I stand before you to announce a break from the past and to share a decision that will shape the road ahead.
“This concerns our values, how we organize ourselves politically and how we secure the future of our project and our people.
“Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time, when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.”
Mbah also commended President Bola Tinubu’s policies, saying that Enugu State has enjoyed massive support under the President.
The PDP governor, moved to the ruling party with House of Assembly members, councilors, chairmen of councils and others.
His exit from the PDP, according to speculations, will be followed by that of Bayelsa State governor, Duoye Diri, whose planned defection has reportedly been finalised.
Delta State governor, Sheriff Obvwevori and Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno had earlier moved to the ruling party with all their officials and appointees earlier in the year.
