JUST IN: Again, Labour unions reject FG’s N54,000 new minimum wage offer

* Raising fears of imminent industrial action

The Organised Labour, on Tuesday, rejected the N54,000 offered by the Federal government as new minimum wage.

Reports said that the government, during a meeting with the leadership of the labour unions, proposed N54,000, up from the earlier N48,000 offer.

Organised Labour – the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) – walked out on the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage after the government, last week, proposed N48,000 as minimum wage.

Apparently sensing what was in the offing, the labour unions told the government last week to perish any thought of offering N100,000 as the new minimum wage.

They also asked the government to be serious with negotiations on the issue of workers’ wages, insisting that it used the lowest minimum parameters in arriving at their demand for N615,000 as the new minimum wage.
