Journalists disallowed coverage as teenage victim testifies in Lagos court against alleged rapist-doctor

The gallery was, on Thursday, cleared as the 16-year-old girl alleged to have been sexually abused by the Director of Optima Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Femi Olaleye, testified before the Domestic Violence and Sexual Court in Lagos.

Journalists and others having nothing to do with the trial were ordered out of the court following an application by the Director, Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dr Jide Martins.

The teenager was brought to the court amid tight security, and wore a face mask to conceal her identity.

Olaleye is being tried for “unlawful sexual intercourse and sexual assault by penetration with his manhood.”

The defendant’s wife, Mrs. Aderemi Fagbemi Olaleye, narrated in court on Monday how her doctor husband allegedly defiled her 16-year-old niece, who was brought into the family following the death of her parents.

At resumption of hearing before Justice Ramon Oshodi On tHursday, the girl testified behind closed, to the exclusion of journalists and other prying eyes.

The Judge reduced the bail sum from N50 million to N40 million with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned to January 3 and 4, 2023.
