Jilted lover nabbed over death of 5 persons from ‘poisoned’ amala

The Police in Osun State have arrested one Razaq (surname not available) for allegedly poisoning yam flour (Amala) meal eaten by five people in Obokun Local Government Area. The five reportedly died of the food poisoning.

The victims included one Esther Fasanya and her mother, Kehinde.

Esther was believed to be the girl friend of the suspect popularly known as ‘fine boy’.

Reports say Esther, at some point, decided to end her relationship with Rasaq, a development that reportedly infuriated the lover boy, a commercial motorcycle operator (Okada rider).

Consequently, Rasaq allegedly connived with one of Esther’s friends to poison the food meant for the whole family.

After eating the food, Esther and her mother, who worked at the Obokun Local Government, died instantly.

Though others were rushed to hospitals, efforts to save their lives failed as three among the four persons that were taken to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa eventually died.

Osun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, said he had heard about the death of two out the four persons rushed to the hospital in Ilesa. He, however denied knowledge of more deaths.

Confirming Razaq’s arrest to newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Fimihan Adeoye, said: “Rasaq has been arrested. He is being interrogated. I want to assure the public that the matter would be diligently investigated.”
