Isu Crisis: Aro LGA Chairman thanks Ikpeazu for prompt response

The Transition Council Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, has expressed appreciation to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his prompt intervention in the recent border clashes between Isu community in Arochukwu LGA and their neighbors from Cross River State.

Isu community bordering Cross River State was attacked on Monday by persons suspected to be from neighboring Utuma community of Cross River State, resulting in the killing of one person, while several others were injured.

In giving the situation report to the governor, the TC Chair wrote: 

“We were able to mobilize the security to the affected areas, and they were able to repel the attacks and brought the situation under control, though the security personnel are still there to maintain law and order.

“We lost one person while some others were injured and are currently receiving treatment.

“We want to sincerely thank you for your promptness in the mobilisation of adequate security and in due time. God bless you Sir,” he said.

Also speaking on the crises in a radio program monitored in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, expressed the sympathy of government to the family of the bereaved and prayed for speedy recovery to the injured.

According to him, “Governor Ikpeazu and indeed Abia State Government is saddened by the reported fresh clashes especially with the loss of life and we wish to call for calm while we continue to engage with Cross River State government to ensure total cessation of these dastardly attacks.

“This is the first recorded attack after 10 months lull and we are not happy about it. The government provided a patrol vehicle, relief materials and maintained security agencies at the flashpoints to prevent situations like this. Governor Ikpeazu has summoned a meeting of the State Security Council to ensure total domination of the area with a view to preventing further clashes and protect our people. This administration will mobilize every resource available to it to protect Isu people as well as ensure the that those who are injured or displaced receive necessary support,” he concluded.
