Islamic group asks Buhari to slam travel ban on Trump

An Islamic organisation in Nigeria – Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) – has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ban out-going US President, Donald Trump from seeking refuge in Nigeria.

Specifically, MURIC wants Trump sanctioned along with his key allies for their ignoble roles in the US 2020 presidential elections, particularly the storming of the Capitol.

MURIC made the call in a press statement signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola on Monday.

The group said it strongly condemns the role played by Trump during the last general elections in the world’s leading democracy.

According to MURIC, the President Trump’s refusal to concede defeat shows acute rejection of the spirit of sportsmanship.

Trump came under heavy criticism last week after he was said to have incited his supporters to attack the US Capitol in a bid to stop the certification of President-elect, Joe Biden’s win.

Trump was said to have called some Republican Senators to make further moves to reject the election while the riot went on at the Capitol.

MURIC believes that by inciting his supporters, which led to the storming of the Capitol, Trump has stained America’s reputation as a great democracy.
