Investors in the Nigerian equities market gained N786 billion at the close of trading on Monday to begin the week with a boom.
This followed the surge in the share prices of stocks such as AXA Mansard Insurance, Seplat and Skye Shelter Fund Plc, among others, on the trading floor.
The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) surged to 144,822.77 points from the 143,584.04 points recorded the previous day.
After five hours of trading at the capital market, the equity capitalisation increased to N91.9 trillion from N91.1 trillion posted by the bourse on Friday.
The market breadth was positive with 48 stocks advancing, 23 stocks declining, and 74 stocks remaining unchanged in 35,490 deals.
AXA Mansard Insurance, Seplat and Skye Shelter Fund Plc led other gainers with 10%, 10% and 9.97% growth each in share prices to close at N15.84, N5,917.20, and N381.10 from the previous N14.40, N5,379.30, and N346.55 per share.
International Energy Insurance, Mc Nichols, and Thomas Wyatt Plc led other price decliners with an 8.42% 8.31%, and 7.72% dip in share price to close at N2.72, N3.20, and N2.99 per share, down from the previous N136.50, N3.58, and N7.95 per share.
On the volume index, Ellah Lakes Plc led trading with 80 million shares in 931 deals, followed by Chams Plc, which traded 30 million shares in 466 deals.
Sterling Bank Plc traded 24 million shares in 2,003 deals.
On the value index, Guaranty Trust Holding Co Plc traded stocks valued at N1.9 billion in 1, 430 deals, followed by Seplat Petroleum Development Co, which traded equities worth N1.6 billion in 107 deals.
Aradel Holding Plc traded shares valued at N1.2 billion in 843 deals.
