A security consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi, has tasked the governors of the South eastern states to rise to the challenge of insecurity in the region.
In fact, the Interpol Coordinator insists that there is much the governors of the region can do to address the situation.
Udensi made the assertion Wednesday while featuring in FLO FM programme.
The security expert, who regretted that the proposed Ebube Agu security outfit is yet to be operational, noted that the South west security outfit – Amotekun – is the most viable because of the personnel and their governors’ pro-activeness.
“The fact of the matter now is that the level of insecurity in the country has exposed the inability of the Federal security agencies to be able to provide security for the country. That is why the Federal government allowed the states to have their own security outfits.
“All South east and South south governors have been sleeping on the issue of security.”
The South eastern governors are not doing much in this regard. The one that was established by the South east governors has been moribund.”
On the security votes the governors receive monthly, Udensi said:
“If you see the volume of funds that is received by the governors every month in the name of security votes, you will be totally shocked at what they are doing.
“The governors that collect these security votes, they pocket it. They don’t use it for the purpose they were provided.
“It is not being used to ensure that even the minimum security arrangements are put in place. It is a pity, it is pathetic,” he lamented.
Udensi continued: “The South east governors are not united; they have decided not to leverage through the window provided by the Federal government.
Asked who is to blame on insecurity – the Federal government or the State governments? Udensi pointedly said:
“We are going to hold the State governors responsible for their inability to take advantage of the window provided by the Federal government for us to have a very formidable regional security outfit called Ebube Agu.
“We are not blaming them; we are asking them to take responsibility of leadership positions in their various localities.
“South east governors are sleeping. South east governors have refused to accept responsibility of providing security for their people.
“We are asking them to come down from their high offices and take responsibility.”
He said President Muhammadu Buhari was right to have asked the governors to go home and take care of the problems in their states.
He also charged the South east governors to come together and make a good impact for their people.
