Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has said he would not mind being grouped with any of the top soccer playing countries in the world Cup group stage, explaining that the more quality opponents the team gets, the more their game improves. He revealed this while answering questions in a radio programme monitored in Lagos. He said playing against the likes of Brazil, German, and Belgium among others will enhance the tactical capabilities of his boys.
Rohr further revealed that Super Eagles players are to share their match bonuses with ailing goalkeeper Carl Ikeme in solidarity with the stopper who is battling acute leukemia in England.
According to the Coach, Ikeme is still an integral part of the team as he is welcome to travel with his team mates to Russia as a non-playing member.
On how the team qualified for the Mundial show piece in Russia with a match still outstanding, the tactician explained further: “I have a good programme to build a young team, physical and fleet footed combined with experience. Our initial plan was not to go to the world cup but to build a strong team and so I have the best players. Moreover our best tactics is harmony. There is oneness in the team.
The French/German coach said he will give other members of the
team that have not played the opportunity to prove themselves during
the upcoming game against Algeria in Algiers come November 11.
He said the likes of John Ogu, Anthony Nwakeme, Oghenekaro Eterbo among
others will be given the opportunity in the next match. Rohr is yet to
lose a game in the Russia World Cup qualifying games.
