The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate at the February 25 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has vowed to pursue his victory at the polls to a logical conclusion, saying he will be President of Nigeria.
Obi spoke at the public presentation of the book ‘Peter Obi’s Many Voices One Perspective’in Awka, on Friday.
But Obi appealed to his supporters for calm, faulting those who chide Obidients for offering apologies for their faults, arguing that it is in order for those who aspire to lead a new Nigeria to apologise if there is wrongdoing.
He said:” We are building a New Nigeria where we should be able to apologise when we are wrong”.
On his election petition, Obi said he will claim his mandate.
He said: “Anyone who thinks I am in transit is wrong. I must be President of this country. If anybody thinks Peter Obi is going to run away, no way”.
Obi said he has a destiny to right the wrongs in Nigeria.
He recalled that he once chaired the board of the Tertiary Education Fund (TetFund) of which the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mamood, was a member but that he never met him in the course of the election.
He said he did not need to meet the INEC chairman to do the right thing.
He said he will respect the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Court but that he knows he has a destiny.
Earlier, the Royal Father of the day, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, gave a low down on Obi’s journey in politics and concluded that Obi is not just a man of the moment but a man of destiny. He said that Obi has in the past succeeded where it is thought impossible.
He also described Obi as a man who loves justice and that he hardly takes a wrong decision.
The lead editor of the book, Prof Stella Chinyere Okunna said the book is a product of those close to Obi to raise money to assist in funding his campaign and that the book is everything about Peter Obi.
Okunna said though Obi is not a Saint, non of his fellow contestants in the presidential election is near him in terms of integrity, knowledge, humility, diligence, experience and having an idea of how a difficult task will be solved.
The book presentation was a gathering of who is who in Anambra State.
Chiefly captains of industries, former members of Obi’s cabinet, the clergy including Catholic Bishop Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, traditional rulers, academics and several others attended the ceremony
