Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has suspended the Rector of the State-owned Polytechnic (ABIAPOLY), Prof Osonwa Okorie.
Okorie’s suspension was conveyed through a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Chris Ezem.
In his stead, Ikpeazu, as visitor to the institution, has appointed Haglar Okorie to head the 31-year-old institution in an acting capacity.
No reason was given for the suspension of the former Rector. The governor, however, said the suspension of the Rector, and his replacement, take immediate effect.
The new Acting Rector is an Associate Professor at Abia State University, Uturu, and has a law firm in Aba.
Okorie hails from Ohafia Local Government Area.
