* As heaps of refuse adorn streets in Aba, Umuahia
Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeaz, has approved sack of Mr. Eze Okwulehie, the General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA).
The agency is in-charge of disposal and management of both domestic and industrial wastes in Umuahia.
His sack was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Chris Ezem.
According to the statement, the governor directed the SSG to oversee the activities of the agency with immediate effect pending the appointment of a substantive head of the agency.
Prior to the decision taken by the government, the State House of Assembly had summoned Okwulehie to appear before its Committee on Environment to explain to the reason the growing heaps of refuse in Aba and Umuahia, the two major cities of State.

The lawmakers had observed with dismay that some streets and roads in the State capital and Aba have been taken over by refuse hence the need for an explanation.
