…As Alumni association honours Udensi, others at special AGM
All is now set for the series of events lined up for this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Aggrey Memorial College, Arochukwu.
Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, listed as Special Guest of Honour, is scheduled to unveil the new Abna Hall, the iconic assembly place of the students.
The event, according to the organizers, takes place in the Aggrey Memorial College compound on December 31, 2021, under the chairmanship of Professor Okoro Ijoma. Time is 11am.
The Abna Hall was recently rebuilt by an alumnus of the institution, Sir Chikwe Udensi, a gesture that has earned him a special place in the annals of the College history. Thus he is being honoured as Alumnus of the Year.

A few more persons, especially those who had impacted the College in remarkable ways, are also to be similarly honoured. They include Engineer Ijere Kanu, who facilitated the building of a modern science laboratory in the school; Mrs. Cordelia Okereke, supported by Engineer Goddy Ijeomah, for instituting a scholarship scheme specifically for deserving female students of the college.
Perhaps more emotional is the post-humus award for the late Mazi Osu Kanu Okoro, in whose honour Udensi reportedly rebuilt the Abna Hall.
Also lined up include the commissioning of the Alvan Ikoku road (from Nkwunabo roundabout to the college, and beyond) by a presidential aspirant, Mazi (Dr) Sam Ohuabunwa.
The Managing Director of Nigeria Social Investment Agency (NSIA), Mr. Uche Orji, is billed to unveil and present a stock of academic books donated to the institution by another alumnus, Barrister Oscar Okoro.
The culmination of the series of events is the conduct of the AGM, during which election will be held to choose new officers for the association.
The President of the Alumni Association, Mazi Emma Okoro Egbukwu, urged all old students of the College to turn up en masse for the events.
