In an apparent bid to avert breakdown of law and order on March 26 – the date scheduled for the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention – the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has approved payment of new salary structure for the police personnel.
A letter allegedly written by policemen emerged online last week threatening to embark on a two-week warning strike from March 26.
But the police authorities immediately countered the letter, declaring that the news was fake news, which should be ignored.
In the letter, the policemen had demanded for the 20% increase as approved by the Federal government since December last year.
But three months after, the policemen complained that the approved increment has no reflected in their pay slip, lamenting that they work under horrible conditions, adding that their colleagues are being killed on a daily basis.

IGP Usman Baba
As part of measures to stop policemen from engaging in industrial action, the Nigeria Police Force ordered the immediate implementation of the new salary structure.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, also approved the distribution of uniforms and other accoutrements to men of the NPF.
From all indications, the NPF is not leaving anything to chance as the IGP is currently taking urgent steps to stop the said industrial action.
